Connecticut Independent Party Endorses Beth Cliff for State Representative in District 112
Beth Cliff was notified by Connecticut Independent Party Chair Chip Beckett that she has received the Party’s endorsement for State Representative in District 112 which includes Monroe, about half of Easton and a part of Trumbull. Beth will appear on the November 5th ballot as both the Democratic and the Independent candidate.
“A lot of people are tired of the two-party system and I think the Independent Party represents an attractive option. For them – and for me as I anticipate being in the General Assembly come January – it’s not about blind party loyalty, it’s about finding workable solutions to real problems, no matter where they originate.” Cliff noted.
The Independent Party’s decision to endorse Ms. Cliff came after reviewing her positions on a number of key issues. These include:
Responsible fiscal policy that achieves a balance among taxation, key services, an encouraging business environment, supporting our seniors, and maintaining an economy where families at all income levels can thrive.
Climate and protecting our environment with a thoughtful approach that includes greener transportation, supporting our agencies that protect our clean water and air, and encouraging and incenting consumers’ good green practices.
Education that prepares all people to enter the workforce and compete for, and grow in, jobs that provide a living wage, and to be engaged, contributing members of their communities, through collaboration among the State, municipalities and industry.
Protection of personal freedoms that are under attack: the freedom to make decisions about our own bodies, to live and love as we wish, to read the books we choose, and to be treated fairly as an equal and worthy person.
Ms. Cliff is a champion of citizen engagement and believes that transparency in government is essential. She favors means to expand voter participation such as the ability for voters to use the referendum to bring measures to the ballot, and the Rank Choice Voting technique to expand voter choices in appropriate cases.
Ms. Cliff was born and raised in a small, rural Connecticut town and has more than 30 years of business experience where collaboration and problem solving were essential to her success. She and her husband live in Easton and have two grown daughters. Throughout her demanding corporate career and while raising a family, Ms. Cliff has cared deeply about the challenges women, families and communities face.
Ms. Cliff is also the candidate for the majority Democratic Party and therefore will have a seat at the table when decisions are made in Hartford. This means that she will be working for all voters to bring home state resources to the communities of Monroe, Easton and Trumbull.
Ms. Cliff says, “I have the passion, the commitment, and the skills to serve Connecticut and I can’t sit on the sidelines anymore. I am fortunate to have the ability to serve, and I want to. The time is now to get involved and fight for what we believe in. There is too much a stake in the election. My daughters’ futures – and those of all our children – depend on it.
“I look forward to serving the people of Monroe, Easton and Trumbull. I will be spending time with the voters and learning more about their challenges and concerns so I can bring back the results that matter.”
